Get alerted when there’s a problem with excessive vibration or motion

Predict the maintenance of machinery and structures to improve performance by continuously measuring fluctuating vibration. The award-winning Industrial Advanced Vibration Meter uses an accelerometer to wirelessly monitor oscillation on three axes to capture vibration frequency, crest factor, velocity, displacement, or acceleration. The meter also reports duty cycle and temperature, helping protect vital assets and perform end-of-life analysis.

The Industrial Wireless Advanced Vibration Meter reports this data on a user-configurable time interval or Heartbeat. In addition, the sensor can report the current, max, or average data. These measurements are sent to the gateway, making the data available in iMonnit or another approved data service.

Stay up to date on machine health

The industrial model only comes in the leaded option and includes 3.6V Lithium batteries. This sensor has an expected battery life of up to 7 years.

  • Manufacturing—Monitoring machines, assembly lines, and equipment to help predict wear and failure, maximizing uptime through scheduled maintenance.
  • Energy field services—Low-frequency monitoring of motor mounts on crude pumps. Remote monitoring replaces in-field checks, trimming operational expenses while preventing bearing blowouts.
  • Field maintenance—Detecting abnormal vibrations (or temperature changes) within a duty cycle that may point to failing components. Plus, remotely monitoring high-RPM brushless motors and smart materials or structures within production facilities.
  • Civil engineering—Tracking seismic activity on high-rise structures or oscillation-related stress on critical infrastructure, such as bridges. After-hours monitoring of tower cranes, generators, and other equipment on construction sites. Understanding the loads (and subsequent movement) placed on retaining walls along interstates and other vital infrastructure.
  • Freight management—Collecting movement and stress placed on loading docks after being struck by cargo ships or semis. The data helps engineers buttress older installations and shapes new designs.

Monnit Gateway Options

An integral component of any IoT network is the gateway. A gateway device allows for data from sensors to be transmitted to the iMonnit software platform.

Monnit Ethernet Wireless Gateway 4

Monnit’s Ethernet Gateways allow your Monnit Wireless Sensors to communicate with the iMonnit™ Online Wireless Sensor Monitoring and Notification System without the need for a PC. Simply provide power and plug the gateway into an open Ethernet network port with an internet connection. It will then automatically connect with our online servers, providing the perfect solution for commercial locations where there is an active internet connection.

Monnit 4G + Ethernet IoT Gateway

The ALTA® by Monnit Wireless IoT Gateway combines a 4G LTE CAT-M1/NB2 cellular engine and Ethernet platform with Monnit’s wireless access point network to aggregate and communicate data from Monnit ALTA Wireless Sensors. The ALTA IoT Gateway allows ALTA Sensors to operate on the world’s leading cellular networks and stay connected to the Internet. The gateway uses AC main power but also has redundant power through a battery backup lasting up to 60 hours.

To meet the global demand for enterprise IoT deployment, the IoT Gateway communicates with the cloud-based iMonnit® monitoring software via cellular transmission, making it ideal for remote locations or where the Internet isn’t available. The RJ-45 Ethernet jack allows local device configuration, diagnostics, and connectivity backup. The IoT Gateway is instrumental in sending sensor notifications via text, email, or call if user-defined conditions are met or exceeded.

Keep your business running smoothly with Monnit's accelerometers

Monnit’s range of wireless accelerometers are a digital, low power, low profile capacitive sensor that can measure acceleration on three axes. Accelerometers are used in all types of electronic devices today, most notably in smartphones to change the screen orientation when rotated. Monnit offers 5 different types of accelerometers that be particularly useful in heavy mechanical environments.

Get real-time data to protect assets

The first type of accelerometer sensor is Monnit’s Tilt Sensor. This accelerometer activates at a set time interval (defined by the user) and converts measurements to pitch and roll in terms of degrees. If you think about a flying plane, pitch refers to the up and down movement, and roll refers to the clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation of the plane around the x-axis.

See the Monnit Industrial Tilt Wireless Sensor for more information

Next are Monnit’s G-Force Snapshot and G-Force Max/Average Sensors. These sensors measure g-forces (up to 8G) on the X, Y, and Z axes. Based on the sensor you select, readings are displayed as either a single ‘snapshot’ when the sensor activates at its set interval or the ‘max/average’ of the movement since the last reading.

See the Monnit G-Force Snapshot and G-force max/Average Sensors for more information

Monnit’s Impact Detection Sensor activates and displays readings only when the sensor experiences sudden movement. This sensor can also be set to trigger above certain G-force levels, alerting the user of any unexpected movement.

See the Monnit Industrial Impact Wireless Sensor for more information

Finally, Monnit offers an Advanced Vibration Meter. Like other accelerometers, this sensor measures G-force on 3 axes to determine speed and frequency. Sensors can be set to only capture when a vibration occurs and sleep when no vibrations are present or to measure at a given assessment interval regardless of whether a vibration has occurred or not.

Drop-in for deeper machine insight

These accelerometer sensors are very useful for manufacturing environments as they are primarily used to predict, and consequently prevent mechanical failure. For example, if a motor experiences increased vibration levels, this can be a good indicator that bearings are worn, and the motor is close to failure. An alert will allow engineers to respond in time to a malfunctioning machine before it completely breaks, ultimately saving time and money. Monnit’s range of accelerometers paired with an applicable Gateway and iMonnit software, make it easy to set up a system that can do this.

A complete wireless network does not have to be complicated or confusing. Monnit wants to make it as easy as possible to implement a secure cloud network into your daily business operations. Simply place these sensors on a few critical components in your factory and evaluate the results over the first week to establish a proper rhythm. Once users know what is considered normal mechanical movement, notifications can then be set up and sent to any internet-enabled device when preset parameters happen to change.

Gain deeper insights to your company’s machines today and help eliminate problems early before they become expensive and time-consuming.
