ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD MONITORING LOGGERS

HOBO MX2300 Series

One platform. Nine outdoor loggers. Built for the field.

Every logger in the MX2300 Series shares the same core platform — and that’s the point. Wireless Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity, the free HOBOconnect app, and IP67-rated weatherproof housing rated for conditions from -40°C to 70°C. Set up in minutes from your phone. Retrieve a full dataset from up to 30 metres away in around 60 seconds.

  • Wireless data offload — Configure and download via Bluetooth directly to your iOS, Android, or Windows device
  • Free HOBOconnect app — View data in real time, set alarms, export to Excel or cloud storage
  • IP67 weatherproof housing — Sealed against dust and immersion, built for long-term unattended deployment
  • Up to 5-year battery life — User-replaceable 3.6V lithium battery, minimal maintenance in the field
  • High-accuracy, low drift — Temperature accuracy to ±0.2°C with drift of less than 0.01°C per year

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the HOBO MX2300 Series used for?

The HOBO MX2300 Series is a range of nine weatherproof Bluetooth data loggers for outdoor environmental monitoring and field research. Depending on the model, they measure air temperature, relative humidity (RH), soil moisture, soil temperature, soil electrical conductivity (EC), PAR, and solar radiation. Common applications include microclimate monitoring, habitat research, soil studies, agriculture, horticulture, and land rehabilitation.

  • How do I download data from a HOBO MX2300 data logger?

Data from a HOBO MX2300 data logger is configured and downloaded wirelessly over Bluetooth Low Energy, from up to about 30 metres away, using the free HOBOconnect app. The app runs on compatible iOS, Android and Windows devices, and lets you view recorded data, set alarms, and export data to Excel or cloud storage for further analysis.

  • What measurements can HOBO MX2300 data loggers record?

It depends on the model. Across the series, HOBO MX2300 data loggers can record air temperature, relative humidity (RH), soil moisture (volumetric water content), soil temperature, soil electrical conductivity (EC), photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and global solar radiation. Some models also calculate dew point and vapour pressure deficit (VPD) from the logged data.

  • Are HOBO MX2300 data loggers suitable for outdoor monitoring?

Yes. HOBO MX2300 data loggers are built for long-term, unattended outdoor monitoring. The logger housing is IP67-rated, sealing it against dust and immersion, and the loggers operate from -40°C to 70°C, so they suit demanding field conditions.

  • Can HOBO MX2300 data loggers be used for agricultural research?

Yes. HOBO MX2300 data loggers support agricultural and horticultural work such as irrigation research, soil moisture and root-zone monitoring, crop studies and microclimate monitoring. Models with soil EC (MX2307A, MX2310 and MX2311) also help track soil salinity, while the PAR and solar radiation models (MX2308, MX2309, MX2310 and MX2311) show how much light crops receive.

  • What is the difference between the HOBO MX2307 and MX2307A?

The MX2307 measures soil moisture and soil temperature. The MX2307A is a newer model that adds air temperature, relative humidity and soil electrical conductivity (EC), using a LI-COR soil moisture sensor, so you can monitor climate and soil conditions with one logger.

  • Can I access HOBO MX2300 data remotely?

Yes. MX2300 data loggers are designed for Bluetooth download in the field, but you can add an MX Gateway and an MX data plan to upload data automatically to LI-COR Cloud (formerly HOBOlink) for remote viewing, analysis and sharing.
