The ezeio Controller

The ezeio [ee-zee-eye-oh] Controller is our main hardware product. The ezeio communicates with sensors and meters locally, and with the cloud service ezecontrol.com via the Internet.

The ezeio is designed to be easy to set up. There is no software to install, and in most cases it works right out of the box after being plugged in with no setup what so ever. The controller (and a connected sensor) is the only component you need for a working system.

There are four models of the controller, having different connectivity options. All models have Ethernet connectivity, Modbus, Microlan, four analog and two relays. All models use the same configuration system and all can be expanded up to 40 inputs and 40 outputs.

The ezeio is suitable for a wide range of applications – from temperature alarms, submetering and thermostat control, to complex control applications. The system is designed to be easy to install and deploy in anything from single sites to hundreds spread out over the globe.

Each ezeio controller has a 4MB on-board flash memory that acts like a circular buffer for data samples.
The memory is organized as 8000 samples for all of the inputs (max 40).
So if you log at 5 minute interval on all 40 inputs, you'll have
8000x5=40000 minutes buffer in case of any communication blackouts.
That's almost 28 days. The delayed data will automatically be uploaded as soon as the communication is restored.

The ezeio will automatically switch over to cellular communication if it is unsuccessful contacting the cloud servers via Ethernet.The 868/900MHz radio is used for local communication (up to 100m/300ft range) with sensors and input/output expansion modules. This radio is using a proprietary, encrypted protocol designed specifically for the ezeio system.The ezeio comes complete with GSM antenna, power supply, an Ethernet cable and 4 months of basic service. Additional service is easily purchased via the web interface. Access to the web UI for configuration and live data is included for life.

It is very easy to get started with the eZEio controller. This video show the controller hardware design, and show the first steps on how to create a live dashboard view.

Web access

Unlike many other networked products, the ezeio does not have a built-in web server. Instead the web server is managed by eze System in three geographically separate data centers. There are several benefits with this model;

  • With powerful servers, the user experience can be made much better than on limited hardware.
  • Access to the web servers is managed via the same technologies as banks and high volume secure web sites use.
  • Users do not need to keep track of IP addresses or ports of the field units. Everything is accessed from the same web site.
  • Multiple users can access the system at the same time, and each user has access to multiple controllers from a single login.
  • The data and configuration for all systems are always backed up in multiple places.

Dashboard

The dashboard is a collection of widgets. Each widget can be configured to show live or historic data from one or many sensors and controllers. The widgets can be arranged on the screen by simply dragging/dropping them, and there can be any number of widgets on a single dashboard. There are two dashboards for each user. One is personal, and one is shared with all other users on the same account.


Status screen

The status screen shows the most current information from a controller. This information is typically updated every 3-4 seconds. All the inputs and outputs, as well as position, thermostat settings and event log is collected on this screen. The left column shows a list of all controllers on the account and their online status. Outputs can be turned on/off directly from this screen.




Configuration

The configuration area provides access to all the features of the controller. Any updates made to the configuration is immediately saved in the database, and if the controller is online the change are automatically synced to the controller. If the controller is offline, the changes will be synced as soon as the controller is back online. All automatic, secure and robust.


Script editor

Most users never use script, but for the curious or advanced there is a script editor built right into the web user interface. Scripts can be written and downloaded just like other configuration, and will run in the controller within seconds after clicking save.


Account management

Each account allows for multiple users and multiple controllers. Unlike systems where each piece of hardware has a password, the ezeio system centralizes the management. This will make the system much easier to manage and with each user having a personal login, it’s easy to manage multiple access levels or deactivate a user when he leaves the company.

How to pay for service

The easiest way to pay for service is to log in to your account at ezecontrol.com, and click “add service”. From there you can select which controllers you want to add service to, and how much. The site accepts all major credit cards, and the service is automatically added as soon as the payment is accepted.

You can also contact us to be invoiced for service. This is a good option if you have a large number of controllers and want to extend all of them at once.
